This is a bridge of the Parliamentary type. The typical features could be summed up as: a straight roadway and flat topped parapet; built of coursed rubble with dressed stone voussoirs; the parapet ends curving down through a quadrant; and the slight apply of the bridge entrances. Perhaps the chief distinguishing mark of the period of bridge building however, is the slight battering (inward slope) of the abutment walls, along with the plumb vertical spandrels, which results in a square recessed ledge at the spring of the arch. The size of this ledge, or step, is determined by the size of the voussoirs stones. [1]
