The width to be crossed is virtually a mile and it is spanned by sixty-seven twin piers. The rest on piles driven 71 yards into clay. In all, 650 piles were sunk. Pre-stressed concrete beams support the deck which curves outwards to its full width of 8 yards. It has wide pavements and a railing of steel mesh and bars. [1, 14]
