Comments :
It is a wooden truss bridge which takes the single track railway over the burn in a boggy stretch of land. It is 147 feet long and has five spans of 8 yard width. Each is composed of four ribs built to form an octagon, although the two end ones are half-buried in the embankments and so their shape cannot be completely seen. The ends of the large horizontal beams are rounded off. Metal plates and bolts enhance the looks of the bridge, seeming to underline its power and durability. Paterson built a timber structure here because the ground would not permit the erection of stone piers. [1]
